The Orpheum Theatre is about four minutes from Pi Alley Garage, up School Street and across Tremont Street to Hamilton Place. The Citizens Bank Opera House is about six minutes (0.3 miles) straight down Washington Street, with the Paramount and the Modern Theatre a few doors beyond it. The Emerson Colonial, the Wilbur and the Boch Center Wang Theatre on Tremont and Boylston Streets are a ten to twelve minute walk.
The Orpheum opened in 1852 and is one of the oldest concert halls in the country; the Opera House, built in 1928 as a movie palace, now hosts touring Broadway shows and Boston Ballet's Nutcracker. Both sit a block or two off the Common, in the stretch of Washington Street that is busiest on show nights when the restaurants of Downtown Crossing and the Ladder District fill up before curtain.
Theatre parking rates
The evening and weekend rate is the reason to park here for a show. Enter after 5pm Monday to Thursday, or any time from Friday 4pm to Monday 3am, and up to ten hours is one low price, which covers dinner, the performance and a drink afterwards. Weekday matinees fall under the flat daytime rate for anything from an hour and a half to twelve hours.
