Boston Common is a seven-minute walk from Pi Alley Garage. Walk up School Street past Old City Hall and King's Chapel to Tremont Street, and the Common is directly across the road at Park Street station. When the underground Boston Common Garage is full, or you would rather not queue on Charles Street, Pi Alley is the closest covered alternative on the downtown side of the park.
The Common dates from 1634 and is the oldest public park in the country. It is the starting point of the Freedom Trail, home to the Frog Pond (skating in winter, a spray pool in summer), and the setting for the Christmas tree lighting, Shakespeare on the Common and most of the city's big outdoor events. The Public Garden and the swan boats are on the far side, about twelve minutes from the garage.
Boston Common parking rates
On weekdays, anything from an hour and a half to twelve hours is one flat rate, so a morning at the Frog Pond or a full day walking the Freedom Trail from the Common costs the same. Evenings after 5pm and all weekend, up to ten hours is covered by the evening and weekend rate. The full table, including short stays, is on the daily rates page.
